Pedra Gentil — A Mystical Dolmen in the Mountains of Catalonia

What is it?

Pedra Gentil is a megalithic tomb built around 4000 years ago, during the Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods. It’s a burial chamber made of large vertical stones covered by a horizontal slab (~3.5 × 2.5 m). It was discovered in 1855 and restored in 1987 by the Vallgorguina Cultural Association.

Why Visit?

  • Mystery & Legends: Local lore says witches used to gather here on Saturday nights for rituals and magical ceremonies. The area has a powerful ancient energy.

  • History & Archaeology: There’s an illustrated sign at the site explaining how such dolmens were built by prehistoric people using logs, ropes, and teamwork.
  • Nature: Surrounded by peaceful forest, the trail to the dolmen is easy and scenic—perfect for a light walk.

How to Get There

  • By car: Take the GI-512 road to Vallgorguina and follow signs for Pedra Gentil.
  • On foot: From the local parking area, it’s about a 30-minute forest trail walk.
Tip: Visit early in the morning or near sunset for a more atmospheric experience. Bring water, comfortable shoes, and your phone — the place is incredibly photogenic.
